Mizoram is largely populated with the tribal population of India. People of Mizoram primarily include several tribal communities that have inhabited the hilly terrains for several decades. Popularly known by the name of "Mizos", the people of Mizoram are deft in various handicrafts work. According to the historic records, Tibetan, Burmese and Chinese people had a great influence on the lifestyle and behavior of core groups of Mizoram.

Tribes of Mizoram primarily reside within the small clans which have turned out to be small villages. Besides celebrating all the national festivals, few local festivals are being feted in great exuberance. Tribe of Mizoram primarily depends on farming which forms the baser of their economy. The prime costume of Mizos is known by the name of "Puan".

Mizos are mainly divided into tribes and sub-tribes. The major tribes that are found in the land of Mizoram are Chakma, Dulien, Ralte, Poi, Jahao, Pankhup, Lakher, Paite, Falam, Tangur, Khuangli, Dalang, Sukte, Fanai, Leillul and Mar. All of these tribes are known to exist in Mizoram ever since this hilly landscape came into existence. Apart from main tribal groups Mizoram people are divided into different sub-tribes namely; Lakhers, Pawis and Lushais. Some of them are as follows:

Chakma Tribes of Mizoram: Chakma tribes are the most important tribal group of Mizoram who practice a combined religion of Hinduism, Buddhism and animism. The Chakma tribes are largely influenced by the Indo Aryan culture which is reflected within their language. They speak a language which is closely associated with Bengali.

Pawi Tribe of Mizoram: Pawi tribes are named after the place where they largely inhabit instead of the name of the clan which is the usual trend of the Tribal community.

Ralte Tribes of Mizoram: Ralte tribes are another tribal group which inhabit in Mizoram. This group is largely settled in the Lushai villages located in the northern provinces of Aizwal. "Himar" is the most significant group among them who immigrated to the hills of Mizoram and got settled.

Kuki Tribes of Mizoram: The Kuki tribes who traveled from upper regions of the continent are also found in the region that inhabit in the hilly regions of the land.
