Treatment of DermatitisTreatment of Dermatitis or eczema is done following various treatment methods. Besides the conventional treatments, different alternative medicine treatments like Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy or nature cure, Aromatherapy, water treatments and exercises are also used for treating dermatitis. These medications have already been proved to be effective in treating dermatitis and are used quite extensively in India and all around the world.

In the Indian traditional medication of Ayurveda, numerous herbal ingredients are used in treatment of dermatitis. The main intention of Ayurvedic treatment of dermatitis is to cure the disease right from its roots. Ayurvedic therapies like Snehana, Swedana, and Panchakarma are frequently used to purify the blood from toxins and also to improve the blood. The herbal medicines used in Ayurveda are mostly applied externally and are also taken internally. The medicines taken internally help in blood purification. Apart from the medicines, patients are also asked to follow specific food habits. The diet is specifically planned to avoid certain types of food and to include certain others according to the individual`s personal constitution. Apart from these, Ayurvedic body massage with help of medicated oils is helpful in improving the skin and preventing the loss of moisture from the skin, as well. The ingredients and medicines like Panchatikta ghritam, Arogyavardhini, Chaturmukha rasa, Khadirarishta, Mahamarichyadi taila or Guduchyadi taila, etc. are most commonly used in Ayurvedic treatment of dermatitis.

In another traditional treatment method, Homoeopathy, the treatment of dermatitis is done using various medicines. The medicines are applied both externally and internally and are aimed at treating the disease from the roots. The most frequently used Homoeopathic medicines for treatment of dermatitis include, Antimonium crudum, Arsenicum album, Arum triphyllum, Calcarea carbonica, Calendula, Graphites, Hepar sulphuris calcareum, Mezereum, Rhus toxicodendron, Petroleum, Sulphur, etc.

Herbal medicines can help in treatment of dermatitis, to a great extent. The Herbal medicines are aimed at strengthening the functions of some parts of body like the liver or the nervous system, as it can help in curing dermatitis. The herbs are used for cleansing the body and getting rid of toxins and also to purify the blood. The herbs are used for easing the pain of itchy, inflamed skin, as well. The useful herbs used commonly for treatment of dermatitis include Babul (Acacia arabica), Butea (Butea monosperma), Linseed (Linum usitatissimum), Madhuca (Madhuca indica), etc.

Naturopathy or nature care is used frequently for treatment of dermatitis. According to naturopathy, a patient commences the treatment of dermatitis by adopting an all-fruit diet for at least a week. Taking three meals a day of juicy fruits like orange, grapes, apple, pineapple and papaya at five hourly intervals is prescribed in naturopathy. After completing the exclusive fruit diet, a patient is sometimes suggested to adopt a restricted diet, for 10 days. During this period, orange juice or grapefruit are prescribed in breakfast. Raw salad, consisting of vegetables available in season, with raisins, figs or dates is also prescribed to be taken for lunch. The dinner is required to have steamed vegetables like spinach, cabbage, carrots, turnips, cauliflower, along with a few nuts or fresh fruit. The combined juice from apple, carrot and celery is considered beneficial in the treatment of dermatitis. Once the course of restricted diet is completed, a patient can commence a well-balanced diet that comprises seeds, nuts and grains, vegetables and fruits. Undertaking a fast on fruit or vegetable juices for three to five days is also sometimes prescribed, in case of a severe condition of dermatitis.

Treatment of Dermatitis The nutritional therapy is also used for treatment of dermatitis. According to nutritional therapy, certain foods are considered as the triggers of dermatitis, especially in children. Nutritional therapy believes that removing the perpetrators from the diet can give the body more tolerance for fighting against other triggers like stress, dust mites, or animal dander. Certain food items like milk, cheese, eggs, pork, fish, shellfish, nuts, all kinds of fruit (including tomatoes), wheat, yeast, etc. are prescribed to be avoided in nutritional therapy for treatment of dermatitis. Adding essential fatty acids that can promote healthy skin are also sometimes prescribed for treatment of dermatitis.

Water treatments are another effective way in treatment of dermatitis. The warm water enema is prescribed to be used daily for cleansing the bowels during the first week of the treatment and thereafter as necessary. Sometimes, Epsom-salt baths are prescribed to be taken two or three times a week. Washing the affected areas twice daily in hot water with Epsom salts is effective in treating dermatitis. A little olive oil is also sometimes applied after Epsom salt bathing. Apart from the water treatment, the patients are also sometimes advised to undertake moderate physical exercises like simple Yogasanas. Exercise is considered as one of the most valuable means for purifying the blood and for preventing toxemia. Having adequate physical and mental rest and fresh air is also another important thing for treatment of dermatitis. Avoiding exposure to cold and adopting regular hours of eating and sleeping can help in curing dermatitis, as well.

Aromatherapy is quite a useful method for treatment of dermatitis. Various essential oils are proved to be excellent skin-soothers and healers and they can help calm many of the symptoms of dermatitis. The symptoms of dermatitis like inflammation, itchiness and infection can easily be calmed by applying the oils made from Birch, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Cypress and Violet, etc. The oils made from Lavender, Geranium and Myrrh also have healing effects and help in treatment of dermatitis. The other treatment methods followed in treating dermatitis include Acupuncture, which can correct any imbalances in vital life energy that may be triggering skin inflammation. Treatment methods like detoxification, fasting, and colon therapy are also sometimes used for treatment of dermatitis. Sometimes, Hypnotherapy is used for curing dermatitis, as Hypnotic trances can give the subconscious mind suggestions regarding stress reduction and the healing of the inflammation. Meditation is also used for treatment of dermatitis, as regular meditation can help in reducing stress and in deep breathing. Both these are important for a well-rounded dermatitis treatment program.

All the above mentioned treatment methods are used most frequently for treatment of dermatitis. These methods are considered quite effective. However, another thing should be kept in mind that most types of dermatitis are almost non-curable and they can occur again and again throughout one`s life. The treatment methods can only help in decreasing the difficulties caused due to dermatitis.
