There are numerous traditional sports in Arunachal Pradesh, which play a major role among the native people of the state. The state, being a hilly area, is not suitable for the sports, which are played in plains. Apart from that, there several sports played in Arunachal Pradesh with equal enthusiasm. Some of the sports of the state are Hole Taso Dukanaram, Hinam Turnam, Porok - Pamin Sinam, Majong, Archery, Fishing and Angling etc. Some of the sports have been discussed in brief below:
Hole Taso Dukanaram, Traditional Sport
This game actually presents the imitation of the animal Hole Taso. This animal quite resembles a cat; the animal often beats its chest alternatively with both its front paws. It has also a tendency to hold its third leg in air at the time of scampering. This tendency of this animal has been imitated in the game- it tests the overall strength, balance and co-ordination of a contestant.
Hinam Turnam, Traditional Sport
The game is often called "a struggle of life and death" by the local people, where participants play the roles of hunter and hunted in the forest. It shows the hunters entire method of hunting- missing the prey, then following again and finally seizing it by the third leg.
Porok - Pamin Sinam, Traditional Sport
It is also known as the cock fighting game. In this game the contestant has to hold one leg in his hand and the other hand on his shoulder and has one leg to hop on and achieve his objective of pushing his opponent out of the circle. Any of the two players who falls to the ground or loses his hold on his leg or steps out of the circle is disqualified.
Majong, Traditional Sport
Majong is a traditional game played by four persons with small tiles where the players pick up the tiles and discard them until any one of them has a winning combination.
