Tourism in Bokaro DistrictTourism in Bokaro District means a wonderful experience. It comprises visiting the various places of interest of this district of Jharkhand and experiencing the beauty of the nature. Situated in the Chota Nagpur Plateau, the vast rolling topography of Bokaro District is typical, strewn by graded valleys and winding streams. The major attractions of this district are Bokaro Steel Plant and Garga Dam.

Some of the popular tourist attractions of Bokaro District are as follows -

Bokaro Steel City: As the fourth integrated steel plant in the Public Sector, Bokaro Steel City was conceived in the year 1959. Bokaro Steel Plant actually started taking shape in 1965 with the partnership of the then United Sovereign of Soviet Republic (USSR). Lying along the Damodar River, along Dhanbad and Ranchi highway is India`s biggest steel complex. The Plant was envisioned as the country`s first Swadeshi Steel Plant. Major coalfields are located nearby Bokaro City was built to offer accommodation and additional community amenities for the plant`s workers.

Garga Dam and Parasnath Hills: Bokaro City is located in picturesque surroundings on the southern bank of Damodar River with Garga, one of its tributaries meandering along the southern and eastern outskirts of the city. On the north, the city is flanked by the high ranges of the Parasnath Hills and on the south just beyond river Garga, it is enveloped by the Satanpur hillocks.

Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya: Located near Bokaro Niwas, it has a collection of over 40,000 books that meets the reading requirements of the people in the township.

City Park: Bokaro has a well-maintained City Park with an artificial lake. Recently three artificial islands have also been created.

Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park: A Biological Park named after Jawaharlal Nehru with a variety of animals and birds.

Babudih: A village in Chas Block famous for 75 feet high tower.

Chandrapura: This town is famous for Chandrapura Thermal Power Station.

Tenughat: Headquarter of Bermo sub-division famous for Tenughat Dam and Tenughat Thermal Power Station.

Visiting Information
By Air: There is no direct air connection but SAIL is having a private air belt at Bokaro District.

By Rail: Bokaro is near Dhanbad, which is on the main Delhi-Howrah railway line.

By Road: Bokaro District is easily connected with all the major cities by good roads.

The best season to visit Bokaro District is between September and February in order to have the best tourism experience.
