The Tons river is one major perennial river of the Himalayas. It flows through the division of Garhwal of Uttarakhand and touches the Himachal Pradesh. It happens to be one of the largest tributaries of the Yamuna River with a length of near about 148 km. Bandarpuch Mountain is the source of this river. The Tons carry more water than the Yamuna river and meet below Kalsi which is situated near a town at Dehradun in Uttarakhand. It joins the Yamuna river in the north-western section of the Doon Valley which is again approximately 48 km away from Dehradun.

Mythical Origin of the Ton River
It is said that the Ton river has its origin linked with a legend with a tiny village known as Mori. The Mori village is situated in the banks of Ton river in the district of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. The localities of Mori are followers of the Kauravas. A belief is held that when the Kauravas had been defeated by the Pandavas, the people of valley wept non stop. Hence, the Ton river is a creation of unstoppable tears of the people.

Tributaries of the Ton River
The Pabbar river happens to be a tributary of the Ton river which has its connection from the western regions. The Pabbar River is a westernmost river which drains east towards the Ganga. The next comes the Sutlej river which is an easternmost river that drains west towards the Indus. The Asan River is another tributary of the Ton river that is named after the great Ton river itself. It happens to be a confluence of the two small systems of the river, one comprises the streams flowing towards southwards from the range of the Himalayas running from Vikas nagara to the Tehri and the other comprises of the streams flowing north-westwards from the hills of lower Shiwalik.

There is an also available option for staying at the Janusar Bawar region which is on the banks of the river and there are opportunities for grade four rafting. The suitable season for the sport is till July.
