Tirupur is a small city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located in Coimbatore district. Tirupur is the seventh largest city of Tamil Nadu and one of the fastest growing cities of the State.Tirupur -  Knit GarmentsThough Tirupur is a very small town but it is called the Knits capital of India. It has a wide range of factories, which export all types of, knit fabrics and supply garments. The city is known for its hosiery exports and provides employments for about 600,000 people.

As per 2001 census, Tirupur had a population of 346,551. Males constitute 52% and female constitute 48% of the total population. 10% of the population is under six year of age. Tirupur has an average literacy rate of 76%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy rate is 82% and female literacy rate is 69%.
