Tiruppur district is a newly formed district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is named after the city of Tiruppur. It is said that the Tiruppur inner wear industry and the cotton market are famous in South Indian market.
History of Tirupur District
Since the 1990s, the formation of the new Tiruppur district had been urged by the exporters of Tiruppur. The city and surrounding region, where there is considerable industrial and business activities, was to be the core area. The inhabitants believed that a new district would facilitate administration of the region and allow more aggressive development measures. Thus, the Tiruppur district was formed in 2009, carved out of the Coimbatore and Erode districts making it the 32nd district of Tamil Nadu and one of the 10 most industrialised and economically developed districts of the state.

The administration of the Tiruppur district in the state of Tamil Nadu is having the collector as the head of the district and there are several other officers in this district who assist the collector in the general administration. There are three revenue divisions in the district of Tiruppur, 7 taluks, 30 firkas and 350 villages. The three revenue divisions of this district are Tiruppur, Dharapuram and Udumalpet and the seven taluks are Tiruppur, Palladam, Avinashi, Dharapuram, Udumalpet, Kangayam and Madathukulam.
