Sembiyan Mahadevi, the Chola queen reconstructed the temple in stone in the 10th century. The innermost structures - the sanctum and the ardhamandapam belong to her period. The niche images include those of Vinayakar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhavar, Bhrama, Gangadharar and Ardhanareeswarar.
