Tinsukia District is located in the upper region of Assam with its headquarters at Tinsukia. This administrative district of Assam is bounded by Arunachal Pradesh in east-south, by Dibrugarh District in south-west and by Dhemaji District in the north, which is separated from Tinsukia District by Brahmaputra River. History of Tinsukia District
According to the history of Tinsukia District, the ancient name of Tinsukia was Bangmara which was initially known as Changmai Pathar. It was the capital of Muttack Kingdom. The Bangmara city was constructed by King Sarbananda Singha with the assistance of his minister Gopinath Barbaruah. The city was built at the heart of Tinsukia city. On 1st of October 1989, Tinsukia District was declared the 23rd district of the state with three main sub divisions namely Tinsukia, Magherita (Sadar), and Sadiya.
