Puducherry Museum at Puducherry is a multipurpose museum built in the year 1983. The Puducherry Museum is situated in the Bharathi Park and is known for its unique collection of sculptures.

Puducherry Museum has an excellent gallery with sculptures and has the remains of archaeological findings dating back to the Arikamedu Roman Settlement. One can go through the history and legendary French colonial details in the section of the museum. The museum also has a wide collection of snail shells that were brought from the sea beaches. It has bronze statues of several gods and goddesses along with handicrafts, art work and temple lamps. The sculpture gallery in the museum is known to have artifacts belonging to Cholas and Pallavas of Puducherry and Karaikal.
The central part of the ground floor of this museum has 3 curios transport mechanisms, a palanquin and a pousse-pousse. This pousse-pousse requires two attendants for steering and pushing it. There are Buddha images from Puducherry or Kirmampakkam and bronzes from the Chola, Vijayanagar and Nayaka periods, arms and weapons. The displayed terracotta figures, shards of Arretine and Roulletted ware, amphorae, burial urns and glass beads have been excavated from the surrounding historic environment. Also on view are French period furniture, mirrors, lamps, paintings, porcelain, crockery and cutlery.
Other than these, there are all types of paintings like Tanjore and glass paintings, colonial prints and contemporary oils, pastels and water colours, books published in Puducherry, images of papier machie wood, cloth, lances, cannons, cannon balls, an old printing press of 1820 and old journals. The fossilized trunks of the ancient trees are preserved in the courtyard while on the foyer of the museum stand numerous stone carved statues.
