Tezpur University is a Central University located at Napaam. The sole aim is to offer academic courses as well as to promote research in various areas of study.

Tezpur University, AssamTezpur University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1994. The University operated from the premises of the Darrang College, in Tezpur. The University provides undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes under the various schools.

Departments of Tezpur University
The School of Science and Technology heads the Department of Physics, Department of Chemical Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Department of Food Processing Technology. The School of Humanities and Social Science consists of Department of English and Foreign Languages, Department of Cultural Studies, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and Department of Sociology. The School of Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources controls the Department of Energy and the Department of Environmental Science. The School of Management Science consists of one department, the Department of Business Administration. The School of Engineering heads the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The objectives of Central University are:

It shall strive to offer employment oriented and inter-disciplinary courses at postgraduate level to meet local.

It shall offer courses and promote research in areas which are of special relevance to the region as well as in areas of science and technology

It shall promote national integration and study of rich cultural heritage of the region. It shall utilize "distance education techniques" to provide access to higher education for large segments of the population.

It shall upgrade the professional knowledge and skills of in service personnel.
