Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University is located at Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The University was set up in the year 1987 under Dr. M.G.R. Medical University Act, 1987.

Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The University was given the power to grant affiliation to the new medical colleges across the state. There are 226 Medical and Para-Medical colleges affiliated to this University. The main objective of the University is to upgrade the standard of medical education across the state.

The University has six departments namely, Department of Experimental Medicine, Department of Epidemiology ,Department of Transfusion Medicine, Department of Medical Genetics, Department of Curriculum Development, Department of Immunology. The University offers MBBS, BDS, BHMS , BAMS , BSMS ,BNYS, B.Sc in nursing, B.Pharm and many other courses through its affiliated colleges.
