Talatal Ghar is a part of Rangpur Palace of Assam. It has seven floors, three of which are under the ground and they were used as army base. On upper ground four floors were used by the royal families.

Talatal Ghar, AssamTalatal Ghar is a part inside the Rangpur Palace located in Rangpur, Assam and it is one of the finest examples of Tai Ahom architecture of Ahom Dynasty. It is also the largest Tai Ahom monuments. It was initially built as an army base. Talatal Ghar was constructed by the Ahom king, Swargadeo Rudra Singha, when he shifted his capital from Garhgaon to Rangpur. the construction of Talatal Ghar was started in the year 1698 and was completed by 1702-1703.

Structure of Talatal Ghar
Talatal Ghar has two secret tunnels and seven floors, three of which were below the ground. Those three were used as exit routes during the Ahom wars. Talatal Ghar exhibits Mughal architectural style. The four upper ground floors of this structure are known as Kareng Ghar and they were used by the Royal families of Assam. Raja Swargdeo Rudra Singha, the successor of Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha, added these top floors during his reign and they were made of wood. The three floors of Talatal Ghar below the ground were built with brick and an indigenous type of cement. These three floors have now been sealed off.

Guwahati Railway Station and Guwahati Airport are the nearest to reach the Rangpur Palace. National Highway 27 connects Assam to other major cities of India.
