The Table Tennis Federation of India is one of the most active among all sports federations in the country. The Table Tennis Federation of India represented India in all the major international championships like Olympics, World, Commonwealth, Asian and all Pro tours.

History of Table Tennis Federation of India
The Table Tennis Federation of India was established in the year 1937 in Kolkata formerly known as Calcutta, as the All India Table Tennis Association (AITTA), with four state associations affiliated to it. The name was changed after Independence. During the outset, the years after foundation of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), D. Ranga Ramanujan, popularly known as T.D.R, played an important role in further strengthening the federation.

The Table Tennis Federation of India always remains as a back bone in organising various International events. It is worth mentioning that India has excellent, infrastructure in a number of cities to execute international events including hosting of recent Asian Championship. TTFI have in the past arranged various international championships like World Championships, Asian Championships, SAF Championships, Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships and various ITTF Pro Tour events.

Role of Table Tennis Federation of India
Since its inception, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has played a vital role in the management of Table Tennis in India. The TTFI has earned fame, name and success during the later years of its operation. The federation has grown in size and boasts of an impressive number of affiliated associations. Almost all the state Table Tennis associations in India are the members of TTFI.

The TTFI mainly ideates 2 types of memberships like the state associations and the institutional members. Some of the major institutional members of the TTFI include Indian Railways, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board and Bank Sports Board. Apart from these, the TTFI also has a vast network of District Associations, many of which are remarkably functional.

The TTFI Executive Committee consists of the posts like President, Life Presidents, Senior Vice presidents, Vice president, Associate Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Joint Secretaries, Treasurer, Advisor, Legal advisor, Life Hon. Member, Chairman Para Committee and Members. Dushyant Chautala, the current President of the Table Tennis Federation of India is the youngest president in the TTFI"s history.

Initiatives taken by Table Tennis Federation of India
The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) takes a lot of initiatives to promote the game and increase its popularity among the Indian people. With a view to serve the purpose, the TTFI holds various national table tennis championships and organise coaching camps. Apart from TTFI, its members also hold their respective institutional and inter unit championships. They offer employment to the promising youngsters of the country, as well. The TTFI has so far registered a huge number of players, approximately over 40,000 in India. Most of these players are serious type of competitors, having aspirations to attain champion status. The players registered to TTFI are the recognized players and they regularly take part in the well acknowledged national and international Table Tennis Championships.

Most of the Table Tennis players in India are engaged in playing the game in the clubs, schools, and offices as a part time with fairly good grasp of the technique of Table Tennis. The TTFI has taken a big effort to coordinate and bring the thousands of scattered units, clubs and places like schools where Table Tennis is being played in India. Apart from being instrumental for the improvement of Table Tennis in India, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has also taken an important role in the international scenario. The TTFI was one of the most active organisations to establish the international governing body for Table Tennis, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
