The world renowned actor Shah Rukh Khan made his television debut with the soap “Fauji”. The soap is based on the life of an irresponsible lad who finally matures into a responsible army man in the due course of his life. It is this super hit soap, which transformed the immensely talented actor into an overnight heartthrob of the whole nation. Earlier in the year 1988 it was broadcasted on Doordarshan and again it was telecast on Sahara One Television.

Synopsis of Fauji
The whole soap is based on the life of the army people. The initial six episodes traces the actions of the young officers including Abhimanyu who arrives at the school of commandos and wins over Dr. Madhu with flowers while his brother gets emotional with the daughter of the General. The punishment meted out to Abhi later on makes him collapse completely. The following episodes depict the recklessness of the junior officers followed by their transformation into very responsible officers. The platoon headed by the two-brother officers triumph against all odds and consequently the brave ones win not only medals but also the reverence of the seniors. Fauji in fact traces the growth of a reckless and immature youth named Abhimanyu Rai who was trained to become a commando. Gradually in the course of his training he matures into a responsible army man. This serial came on the small screen about two decades back and recognized the immense potential of the great actor. Since then he did not have to look back in his life. The whole serial in fact deals with the metamorphosis of the young army officers who are plunged into the real wartime action. This serial made history in the world of television mainly because of the debutant star Shah Rukh Khan. The rigorous training sessions amidst shrill explosions portrays the acting flair of the Bollywood actor.

Direction of Fauji
Twelve years down the line the director of the soap Col. Raj Kumar Kapoor in a belated attempt is trying to encash in on the popularity of Fauji and is ready with another story based on the same-line titled `Ek Aur Fauji`. He in fact claimed that it is not a sequel of the previous one. He further claimed in a recent interview that this soap would serve as a source of inspiration for the young people to take defense services as a serious career option.

He also remarks that army as a career option has a lot of job satisfaction. Like the first soap, the later one will also star mostly newcomers as the star cast. It is also expected by the makers that the birth of another Shah Rukh Khan might take place from this serial who will again move on to create waves in the Indian Television Industry as well as Indian Film Industry. The plots and action of this serial were so intense that it almost glued the small screen viewers to their television sets. With the changing pattern of the soaps in the recent times such poignant and meaningful shows are expected to be aired time and again.
