Career of Surinder Khanna
Purple patch hit Khanna`s life, very soon. He replaced the famous wicket keeper Syed Kirmani, in the tour of England in 1979. This was indeed a prestigious offer for him, as he was expected to be at par with a veteran cricketer, like Syed Kirmani. Unfortunately, Khanna couldn`t make best use of his innate gifts, in the right moment and in the right place. He took part in all the three World Cup matches, but failed to court success. His scope of featuring in Test cricket was readily transferred in favour of another newcomer, Bharath Reddy.

His performance statistics in the first-class games were not that impressive. His four innings, spanning over six games, yielded only 41 runs. Khanna however, continued to flourish in the circles of domestic cricket. His energetic participation is appropriate for One-Day matches. His career got a new dimension, when he received an invitation from the selection committee to join the Indian team, readying them for the Rothmans Asia Cup at Sharjah in April 1984.
