Surajpur District is one of the prominent cities of Chhattisgarh that lies between the latitude 23.2167 and longitude 82.8500. Naturally gifted with picturesque landscape, Surajpur is a significantly a harmonious intermingling of traditional values coupled with modern developments. Originally, a backward region, the city of Surajpur is one of the rapidly developing cities of Chhattisgarh.

Surajpur District Comprising mainly of the tribal population, Surajpur reflects the rich traditional values and cultural legacies of the bygone days that has percolated to the modern era. Located at a height of 1732 feet above the sea level, the city of Surajpur encompasses a population of 18599. The majority of the indigenous population of Surajpur speaks Chhattisgarhi, which is one form of the Hindi language.

Representing the varied cultural pattern and religious fervour of the tribe of the region, Surajpur celebrates several festivals and fairs. The colourful fairs and festivals display the traditional heritage of the local indigenous inhabitants of Surajpur.

The city of Surajpur administratively falls under the jurisdiction of the Nagar Panchayat of the region. Like any other peaceful city, Surajpur is blessed with immense potentialities to become an industrially developed city of Chhattisgarh. Surajpur has many small-scale cottage and handloom industries that help to strengthen the economy of the region. However, majority of the population of Surajpur depend on agriculture to earn their living. Surajpur is well connected with the rest of India by good roads, railways and air. Surajpur is surrounded in each side by the cities of Sarma, Naura, Saoltikra, Paharbula, and Kalua. In history, Surajpur is widely popular for its Market (Economical and Quality product) and certain other tourist places.

Surajpur has a large Scope for Education and Sports. The city is considered as a base for higher education. The only college for Graduation and Post Graduation is situated on the east part of Surajpur known as Surajpur Degree College with courses mainly Arts and recently Commerce has come into mainframe for the student in Surajpur district. The Government of Chhattisgarh is planning to open a school to Provide English Medium Education for the Regional students. Apart from this the Surajpur has a very good Education back Ground. Numbers of Hindi and English Medium School has come into existence after the formation of Chhattisgarh State.

In Surajpur district near about 10 km S.E.C.L. Bishrampur Coal Mines is located which is one the leading company of the India. It is famous for Asia`s biggest digging machine "Shiv Shakti". Near about 5 km Nainpur village, that is a newest developing Industrial area of Surajpur District.
