Sur River is a tributary of Godavari River and flows in the districts of Bhandara and Nagpur in Maharashtra, India. The Sur River is a stream, a body of running water moving to a lower level in a channel on land in India. It is located at an elevation of 241m above sea level. Ramtek Dam is situated on the Sur River. It is a very old dam which has been projected by the British. Since, Bhandara is an agricultural centre for the farmers majorly growing rice; the dam fulfils its purpose by supplying sufficient water for irrigation. The city is split between two rivers one is Wainganga and other is Sur Nadi.
Ramtek Dam
Ramtek Dam is an earth fill dam on Sur River which is near Ramtek, Nagpur district in the state of Maharashtra in India. Ramtek Irrigation Project is locally and popularly known as "Khindsi Lake". Ramtek Dam was constructed as part of irrigation projects by the British in the year 1923.
The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 22.2 m (73 ft) while the length is 229 m (751 ft). The volume content is 1,300 km3 and gross storage capacity is 105,130.00 km3. The main purpose of making the Ramtek Dam is to provide sufficient water for irrigation of crops in this region. Project has a Spillway of other type. Length of the spillway is 57.7 m (189.3045 ft), the spillway is un-gated. It has catchment area of 21.3 thousand hectors.

Khindsi Lake located just 5 kms from Ramtek. This beautiful lake surrounded on all side by verdant forests, is a must see.
