Sumati is the name of the fifth Tirthankar, or Jain saint of the present era.

Sumati is a son of Bharata, a most virtuous Prince. Sumati resigned the kingdom for the life of an ascetic, and died at the holy place Salagrama. In the Vishnu Purana it is mentioned that Sumati was born again as a Brahman in a distinguished family of ascetics.

Sumati is also the name of the son of Janamejaya, king of Vaisali.

Sumati is the son of Suparsva, king of Hastin.

Again Sumati is the son of Dridhasena, king, of Magadha.

Sumati is also the name of a teacher of the Puranas.

Sumati is a daughter of the sage Kratu, married to Yajnavama. Yajnavama is the founder of a Gotra Dynasty.

Sumati is the name of daughter of Vinata. He is the wife of Sagara, who, gave birth to sixty thousand sons, who were all destroyed by the sage Kapila.
