State Museum - Hyderabad
Oldest museum of Hyderabad, originally known as the `Hyderabad Museum`, the A.P. State Museum is a heritage in itself.

State Museum, Hyderabad, Andhra PradeshThe A.P. State Museum originally known as the `Hyderabad Museum` is a place for the ardent lover of art and history. This is the oldest museum in the city of Hyderabad. Beside the Public Garden this building is itself a heritage building with an enchanting charisma.

The A.P. State Museum has a large collection of stone and metal sculptures from ancient and medieval Andhra, from the Satavahana to the Ikshvaku periods. The museum has five galleries among which the Modern Art Gallery is one worth to be mentioned. Besides, there is a pavilion dedicated to Ajanta and Deccani painting.

The other attractions of the A.P. State Museum includes Egyptian mummy, coins dating back to the Satavahana period of about second century BC, important Buddhist and Jain relics and sculpture of different periods and dynasties.

Apart from these, the museum also embodies a Buddist gallery, Brahmanical & Jain gallery, Arms & Armour gallery Numissmatics gallery, Ajanta gallery & more. Adjacent to the State Museum is the Contemporary Art Museum. In addition to these, there are also the eleventh century Jain sculptures from Patancheru, the bronze figures of Hindu holy figures from the Vijaynagar and Chola Periods, the Goddess Ambika, Roman coins and copies of Ajanta Caves` Buddhist murals.

People interested to visit the A.P. State Museum may come between 10:30am and 5pm except on Mondays. Photography can only be taken on permission.
