Sriperumbudur is located in Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is an industrial city located close to Chennai. The city is known as the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja. He is one of the notable Hindu Vaishnava saints. The town is also known for being the town where the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991.
