Sree Siddartha Medical College, Tumkur, KarnatakaEstablished in the year 1988, Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC) is considered to be one of the most popular and famous medical institutions in the state of Karnataka. The college is situated in the district of Tumkur, Karnataka and it was established and being run and managed by the Sree Siddhartha Educational Society (SSES). The vision of the college is to provide the sense of creativity, talent and knowledge to young students of Karnataka, in the field of medicine. The college has been working relentlessly to provide an environment of high academic ambience to mould the young minds and make them capable of welcoming future with vigor and stability.

Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC), Tumkur is working on achieving some certain aims and objectives among which, providing quality medical education is one of the foremost. The college is working with an objective of acting as a philanthropic guide to the inherent talents of each student, to develop their skill and guide them to build all round personality. The motto of the college remains as `Sabbe Loko Hitatthaya` or "Let all be Happy and Prosperous". The college mainly offers the undergraduate course of MBBS and a large number of postgraduate courses, to the students in different fields of medical science.

Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC), Tumkur follows certain rules and regulations for admitting its students in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. For getting admitted in the MBBS Degree course, the candidates are required to have passed the two year PUC examination conducted by P.U Board, Karnataka State with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects or any other examinations recognized as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The candidates, who have completed first year of three year degree course of a Recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects, provided the examination i.e. a "University Examinations", are also considered eligible.

The candidates, who have passed the B.Sc examination of an Indian university, with physics, chemistry and biology (botany and zoology) or Chemistry, botany and Zoology, are considered eligible for admission in MBBS in SSMC, Tumkur. The candidates are required to secure at least 50% in any of the two subjects studied at the degree level and to pass the earlier qualifying examination with physics, chemistry, biology and English. Another criterion is to pass any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian university / board. The students should have taken physics, chemistry and biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English, and should have obtained at least 50% in the examination. The candidates are required to be aged at least 17 years as on 31st December of the year of admission.

In order to get admitted in the postgraduate courses in Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC), Tumkur, the candidates are required to have passed the MBBS degree examination after pursuing a study in a Medical College recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) of this university. The students who have passed the degree from other recognized medical college affiliated to any other University, recognized as equivalent there to, and also has completed one year Compulsory Rotating Internship in a teaching institution or other institution recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) by 30th April 2004, are also considered eligible for admission. The students should also obtain permanent registration of any State Medical Council. About 50% of the college`s total PG seats are filled by the Government and the remaining 50% seats in each subject are selected by the Management of Sree Siddhartha Medical College (SSMC), Tumkur. The management selects the students based on the merit as determined by the Common entrance test conducted by COMEDK PGET.

There is a well equipped and highly developed hospital named the SSMC Hospital, adjacent to the premises of the Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC), Tumkur. The hospital has a large number of departments that are working relentlessly to provide quality medical education to the students of Karnataka. Some of the major departments include the department of Anatomy, Anaesthesia, Bio-Chemistry, Community Medicine, Dermatology, ENT, Forensic Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medicine, Microbiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radiology and Surgery. The 1350-bedded hospital is catering the needs of rural population with the help of skilled doctors and specially trained nurses.

Apart from Sree Siddartha Medical College (SSMC), the Sree Siddhartha Educational Society (SSES) also runs and manages a dental college named, Sree Siddhartha Dental College (SSDC) in Tumkur. The dental college was established in June, 1992 with a view to cater the needs of higher education to needy students of rural areas. This college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru and is also recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
