Sree Sankaracharya University was established by the Sree Sankaracharya University Act, 1994.It was named after the great Indian Philosopher Jagadguru Sree Adi Sankaracharya.

Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Ernakulam, KeralaSree Sankaracharya University aims to promote Sanskrit, Indology, Indian Philosophy and Indian Languages. It is located at Kalady in Ernakulam. Governor of Kerala serves as the chancellor of the University. There are ten regional centres of the University across Kerala.

The University has several under Graduate, Post Graduate, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy Courses in different Subjects. There are 22 departments in the University. These are Sanskrit Sahitya, Vyakarana, and Nyaya Ayurveda, Vastu Vidya, Vedanta, History. Economics, Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Philosophy, Urdu, English. Hindi, Malayalam, Music, Painting, Painting, Theatre.
