The Mizos are fond of all sorts of modern and indigenous games and sports. They are proficient in hunting and wrestling. Most of them are fond of fresh meat hence for that they cleverly trap their prey. At times long lines of rough fencings are placed in jungles which have small openings at some intervals. Through these openings they catch animals like pheasants; jungle-fowls etc. These animals come near to these fences and try to run along this until they find out an opening and finally they get captured. They take the help of spears to kill porcupines and trap tigers under a platform of heavy logs. They do not resort to community hunting. Muzzle loading guns are employed by them to kill wild cats, deer etc. They are even good fishermen and they catch fish with fishing rods, fishing baskets, traps, spears etc.
Football
The game of football is said to be one of the most popular sport of the state of Mizoram. A major concentration of the local youth is involved in this game. Numerous dexterous football players belonging to this region have displayed their mettle in this field of sports by playing in some football Tournaments in national levels. There are several football stadiums in Mizoram.
Inbun
Inbun is another interesting sports which is quite favoured in Mizoram. While playing this game, the players are required to lift his opponent skilfully with the aide of quick movement of arms and legs. The winner is the person who is capable of lifting the person off the ground. Bending the knees, kicking and moving outside the boundaries of the ring is strictly prohibited in this game.
Insuknawr
Insuknawr is sports activity which requires sufficient strength to be played. The Mizoram State Sports Council has proclaimed this game as the Mizo National Game and only men can participate in this sport. The players must make an attempt to push the other players out of the circles by atleast five rounds. A circle with a diameter of 16 to 18 feet is made during this game.
Young boys and girls are fond of modern sports and they are participating in different competition of inter-state and national sports and games. Some of them excel in wrestling, judo, karate etc. The Education Directorate has taken the initiative of giving them training for scouts and guides, physical education and sports.
