Soya Tikki is a popular Indian snack item relished almost all over the country. This mouth-watering snack is rich in protein and fibre. It is easy to cook and can be prepared at home. The basic ingredients required for preparing this dish are soya paneer, soya flour, potatoes, onion and some spices. Soya Tikki can also be purchased from various food stores.
Ingredients of Soya Tikki
•Soya paneer, half kg
•Soya flour, 100 gm
•Potatoes, four to five
•Onion (finely chopped), one or two
•Ginger (grated), two tsp
•Peas (shelled), half cup
•Coriander leaves (finely chopped), half cup
•Green chillies (finely chopped), two tsp
•Red chilli powder, one tsp
•Cumin seed powder, two tbsp
•Coriander (dhania) powder, two tsp
•Cloves (ground), one tsp
•Salt to taste
•Cooking oil, as required
Method of Preparing Soya Tikki
•Boil peas and potatoes, peel and mash potatoes. Grate the soya paneer.
•Mix chopped onions, potatoes, peas, grated paneer, chopped green chillies, grated ginger, coriander leaves, salt, and the four powders - chilli, cloves, coriander and cumin.
•Knead into smooth but tight dough with the flour using adequate water and a little oil if needed.
•Pat dough into flat, roundels, heat the oil and fry till golden brown.
•Serve hot.
Another method of preparing Soya Tikki with slight changes in the ingredients:
Ingredients of Soya Tikki
•Steamed and mashed potatoes, one cup
•Soaked and squeezed soya granules, half cup
•Crumbled paneer, half cup
•Cumin powder, half tsp
•Aamchur powder, one fourth tsp
•Chopped coriander, two tbsp
•Finely chopped green chilli and ginger
•Salt as required.
Method of Preparing Soya Tikki
•Mix all the ingredients one by one in a large bowl without any lumps. Do not add water at all.
•After oiling the fingers make small marble sized balls out of the mixture.
•Lightly roll the balls in bread crumbs.
•Deep fry the balls, few at a time till golden brown.
•Serve hot.
This delicious snack can be served with sweet-tamarind chutney, tomato ketchup or green chutney or North-Indian chilli pickle. This is an ideal food item to accompany an evening leisurely talk.
