South Western Railway
South Western Railway, with its headquarters at Hubli, caters to needs of the travellers from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

South Western Railway, HubliSouth Western Railway, with its headquarters at Hubli, came into existence on 1st April, 2003. This new separate zone was created to cater to the needs of the passengers. Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa and others are well connected by this railway service. Besides Hubli, the other two divisions of South Western Railway are Bangalore and Mysore. The division of Hubli is part of Karnataka.

One of the finest features of Indian Railways is their hospitality that reminds one of the Indian traditions of treating guests like gods. In keeping with this policy a number of facilities have been made available to the passengers at stations. Cloak rooms, drinking water, food stalls, computerized reservation systems, online reservation, cancellation systems, online checking services and others are proficiently offered by the South Western Railway, Hubli.

The growing industry in Bangalore and a cluster of tourist destinations generate a fair amount of revenue in this zone. Trains, such as, Lalbagh express, Shatabdi Express, Udayan Express and others ply for the South Western Railway, Hubli.

The South Western Railways has its head quarters at Hubli, and comprises of Mysore and Bengaluru division of Southern Railways and the new Hubli division of South Central Railway, is a railway zone out of 16 zones that are available in India. Some of the important trains that operate in this zone are the Karnataka Express (Bengaluru to New Delhi), Gol Gumbaz Express (Bengaluru - Solapur), Rani Chennamma Express (Bengaluru - Kolhapur), Jan Shatbdi Express (Bengaluru - Hubli), Karnataka Samparkranti Express (Bengaluru - New Delhi) and Shatabdi Express (Bengaluru - Chennai), Bengaluru-Mysore Tippu Express, Vasco Da Gama-H, Nizammudin Goa Express among others.

Plans are afoot to introduce and lay more lines for trains in this area which is less networked and under utilized.
