Some inner fury weaves the web of love samidst the political turmoil of Indian independence struggle. The tension of the characters, the inner fury of the female protagonist, Mira is nicely etched while well justifying the title.
Kamala Purnaiya Taylor, who often used her pseudo name Kamala Markandaya, was born in Bangalore in 1924. Born in a traditional Brahman family Markandaya made an effort to know not just the city in which she lived but also the rural areas of the state. She was educated at the University of Madras in Chennai and worked briefly for a weekly newspaper before immigrating to England in 1948 with her English husband Bertrand Taylor. She died in England in May 2004. All of Markandaya`s novels reveal her deep preoccupation with the changing Indian social and political scene. She often expresses the feel of her careful, conscious craftsmanship and also the skilful use of the English language for creative purposes. She excels in recording the inner workings of the minds of her characters, their personal confusions and social confrontations. She attempted to portray them as individuals growing into themselves, unfolding the delicate processes of their being and becoming. In their encounter with an alien political power, the ant colonial or anti-imperialist attitudes are powerfully expressed and Markandaya`s major characters project these viewpoints.
