Lord Soma is a Puranic deity whose glory is narrated in the Indian Puranas. In Hindu Mythology he is represented as riding a chariot drawn by two white horses in the sky. Moreover, the term Soma finds importance in the Hindu Mythology and legends because; the term refers to an intoxicating drink. It is believed that, the Somnath Temple is built by Lord Soma. It is situated in Saurashtra off the Gujarat coast and it a very ancient construction.
According to the Vedas Soma was used in sacrifices. Soma Sacrifice was a common ceremony during the Vedic period. It was the essence of the Yajna. Several hymns are dedicated to Soma, in the Rig Veda. Lord Soma`s wife is Rohini. Soma is considered as the god of bliss. It is believed that during half of the month, 36,000 gods feed on his nectar to maintain immortality. Soma becomes very exhausted and Lord Surya feeds him with the water of the oceans.
