The SMS Medical College was established in Jaipur, Rajasthan in the year 1947. The college is the oldest and one of the premier medical colleges in the state of Rajasthan, India. The college has been conducting its activities with a common objective of spreading medical education as well as providing treatment to the people of the state.
The college has a total of 32 departments and six hospitals attached to it. The college has separate hostel facilities for the male and female students and there are three boys` and one girls` hostels in this college. The medical college offers several Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Diploma, MCH, DM, M.Sc (Med), PhD, and Nursing courses. The courses include MBBS, BDS, MD in Anesthesia, Biochemistry, Dermatology, Med, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Preventive and Social Med, Psychiatry, Radio-Diagnosis, Radio-Therapy, Chest and TB Diseases; MS in Anatomy, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Surgery; M.Sc (Medicine) in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology (for non-medical persons); and M.Ch in Pediatric Surgery, Geneto Urinary Surgery. Apart from that, the college offers some Diplomas courses like DA, DGD, DMRD, DPH, DMRT, DTCD, as well.
The students are required to pass the 1st yr SC. exam of the 3 yrs degree course of the University in Rajasthan or Higher Secondary Sc (10+2) exam or any other exam, recognised as equivalent therein with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the pass subjects for getting admitted in the SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The medical fitness of the students is also a required criterion for admission. The students are selected in order of merit on the basis of marks secured at Pre-Medical Test held by University of Rajasthan & Jaipur. There are many hospitals associated with the SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan and they include the Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Zanana Hospital, Mahila Chikitsalaya, TB and Chest Hospital, Sir Padampad Mother and Child Health Center, Psychiatric Center, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center and also an infective disease hospital.
