Sim"s Park is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. More specifically, this park is situated in Coonoor in the Nilgiris, in the northern side of Coonoor Railway Station. The Sim"s Park has been developed as a park-cum-botanical garden around the natural contours of the land. It is considered to be a significant tourist spot of Coonoor, which is visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year.
History of Sim"s Park
Sim"s Park was developed more than a hundred years ago in the year 1874. Mr. J.D. Sims and Major Murray are credited with the establishment of this park. This park has been named after J.D.Sim, who had served as the secretary of the Madras Club in the year 1874.
Features of Sim"s Park
Sim`s Park is divided into 8 main sections and has been laid out symmetrically. There are well kept lawns, artistically laid out flower beds, rock gardens in the park. The higher slopes of the park have natural shola with winding footpaths all over. This is considered to be the most distinctive and picturesque aspect of the park. The park has a small island garden, with a pond around. Boating is permitted in this pond. The glass house of the park serves as a home to different ornamental plants and flowers.

Sim`s Park is located at a height of about 1780 meters above mean sea level. This park spreads over 12 hectares of undulating land.
Climate of Sim"s Park
Sim"s Park experiences a unique tropical mountain climate with ideal climatic conditions for growing flowers and trees. Variance in temperature is not much experienced in the park. As per estimations, this park has experienced maximum temperature of about 30 degree Celsius and minimum temperature of about 5 degree Celsius. The park area is blessed with long flowering seasons, due to uniform distribution of rainfall. This park receives an average rainfall of about 150 cm.
Flora of Sim`s Park
Sim"s Park is a home to more than 1000 species of 255 genera belonging to 85 families, widely covering different group of plants. Trials are conducted on the various plant species grown in the park. This park also houses trees, shrubs and creepers. They have been brought from a variety of places around the world. Some of the rare economic trees preserved in the park are rudraksh- bead tree, cinnamomum, queensland karry pine, an ornamental tree and other trees like araucaria, quercus, phoenix, magnolia, pine, turpentine and tree ferns.
Events Held in Sim`s Park
An annual fruit show and vegetable show comprise the main events of the park. These events are held in the month of May.

The nearest airport to Sim"s Park is Coimbatore Airport located at a distance of about 45 km. The nearest railway station to this park is Nilgiri Mountain Railway. This railway station is located at a distance of about 1km from the Sim"s Park. It is important for the tourists to note that there are rest rooms available inside the park. Restaurants have been set up around the garden, to cater to the needs of hungry visitors.
