Founded by the famous Indian poet and lyricist, Shyam Lal Gupta, popularly known by his pen name Parshad, the Shyam Lal College is located in the union territory of India, New Delhi. With the financial assistance of the Chairman Shyam Lal Charitable Trust, the Shyam Lal College (Evening) began operating on 8th September, 1969.

Shyam Lal College (Evening) houses various departments like Commerce, Economics, English, Hindi, Mathematics, Political Science and Physical Education. Each one of these departments also has formed their "Academic Societies". The college offers courses at undergraduate level only. Students can take admission in BA (Hons) courses of different subjects like Economics, Political Science and Hindi. Courses like B. Com (Hons) and also B. Com (Pass) are offered to the commerce students.
The college has excellent library with nearly 33,470 books of all possible subjects along with 38 journals or magazines and 12 newspapers which help in advancing research and advanced learning.
