Shweta Salve was born in Chembur, Mumbai to parents Deepak and Hema Salve. She has a sister Sharvil. Salve did her schooling in Loreto Convent School in Chembur and graduated with a BA degree from Sophia College, Mumbai. In her college festival Shweta won the title of Miss Kaleidoscope. The actress has also learnt Hindustani classical music and Kathak.
Shweta Salve began modelling after college and managed to bag several commercials as well. She participated in the 1999 Gladrags Mega Model Contest. Following that she got some theater related offers in some experimental plays. She later worked in the National Center for Performing Arts and also at the Prithvi Theater. Soon after that she made her entry into the small screen and went on to bag serial offers including `Hip Hip Hooray`, `Sansar` and `Khamosh Hai Kab Tak` all on Zee Television. After that she also enacted the role of a mother of two children in `Dil Ko Kaise Samjhhaye` on Sony Television Channel. Shweta capitulated to fame with her role as Dr Ritu Mishra in the hugely popular serial `Left Right Left` along with Rajeev Khandelwal. Shweta has also worked in other serials like `Kittie Party`, `Lipstick`, `Saarrkar`, `Kahin Kissi Roz` and a brief role in `Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin.`
Other serials like `Kittie Party` and `Lipstick` turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Shweta Salve and she was actually able to establish a strong footage on the path to stardom and popularity. She did a cameo in the Bollywood movie `Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi.` She had also done music videos for Stereo Nation and Qurban Remix. In the recent past she also did a video for a song called Punjab for the album `Karunesh`. She also tried her hands at comedy by acting in an MTV India spoof on `Fully Faltoo`. She was also one of the participants in the celebrity dance show `Jhalak Dikhlaja` in the year 2006. She paired with the choreographer Longinus Fernandes and was the runner up. She appeared as host of TV sports reality show, `Cricket Star` in 2007. She appeared on the cover of Maxim India magazine in April 2008. She has also participated in the second season of the famous reality show `Khatron Ke Khiladi`, Indian version of Fear Factor. In 2011 Shweta performed in a song number in the film `Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji.`
