According to history Shri Khimsar Teerth dates back to the ancient times. Earlier the name of the place was asthigam. The teerth kshetra also finds its mention in the Kalpa Sutras. It is thus believed that the teerth kshetra is very ancient. As per reference it was once a rich and prosperous city and was resided by many people. The foot images of Lord Mahavira can be seen here and is believed to be 2000 years old. Lord Mahvira had completed his last chaturmas on this land. During those four months people, animals and birds gathered here to hear the holy sermons of the Lord. The place is thus regarded as very holy and sacred.
