Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay is a Bengali author. He is one of the prominent writers of present day Bengal.

Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Bengali AuthorShirshendu Mukhopadhyay (2nd November 1935) was born in Mymensingh district which is now in Bangladesh. His childhood was spent in Bihar, parts of Bengal and Assam. He completed his graduation from Victoria College, Calcutta and did his masters in Bengali from the Calcutta University. He started his career as a school teacher and is now working in Ananda Bazar Patrika at Kolkata. He has been influenced by the Hindu sub-sect of Anukul Thakur. Many of his books have a salutation `Ra-Swa` which stands for Radha Swami. He has spent his childhood in different places due to his father`s job and this has also influenced his literary works.

Works of Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay
His first novel Ghunpoka was published in `Desh` magazine. His first children`s novel is `Manojder Adbhut Baari`. A comics based on his book Bipinbabur Bipad was published in monthly issues of Anandamela for certain time period. His other composition Nababganjer Agantuk is in the process of becoming action comics. Few more comics based on his novels have been brought out: Patalghar,Bidhu Daroga, Pagla Saheber Kabor and Patashgarer Jangale. He has also composed thrillers like Shada Beral, Kalo Beral.

His adult fiction includes: Parthibo, Maanab jamin, Paarapaar,Haripurer harek kanda, Baangaler america Darshan, Ekaadashi o bhut, Charadik, Golmal, Akranta, Pherighaat, Madhur janya, Shreshhha galpa, Galpa-samagra, Ashukher pare, Aadam ibh o andhakaar Ujaan, Kaagajer bau, Kaapurushh, Gati, Churi, Chokh, Jaal and Durbin.

His young adult fiction includes: Nilu hajrar hatyaarahasya, Pidimer aalo, Phajal aali esechhe, Phulchor, Bikeler mrityu, Jao pakhi, Laal nil manush, Shyaola, Shiulir Gandha and Shada Beral, Kalo Beral

His Children`s fiction includes: Manojder adbhut bari, Pagla saheber kabor, Bonny, Patashgarer jangale, Boxer rattan, Gourer kabach, Patalghar, Haripurer harek kando, Nabiganjer Daitya, Hirer angti, Gajananer Kouto, Nababganjer Agantuk, Kunjapukurer Kando, Nrisingha Rahasya, Raghab Babur Bari, Hetam-Garh er Guptodhon, Bhuture, Ghori, Jhiler Dhare Bari, Solo Nombor Fatik Ghosh, Dakater Vaipo, Mohun Ray er Bansi, Dudh Sayorer Dwip, Golmal, Sonar Medel, Chhayamoy, Chakropurer Chakkore, Ghorpanche Prangobindo, Bipin Babur Bipod, Jhikorgachhay Jhonjhat, Harano kakatua, Sadhu Babar Lathi, Aghorganger ghoralo byapar, Batukburor chasma, Golmele lok and Unhu

He has received Vidyasagar Award (1985), Ananda Purashkar (1973 and 1990) and Sahitya Akademi award (1988, Manabjamin).
