Shikhar Dhawan run at the Ranji levels continued on a successful run since his debut for Delhi in the 2004-05 seasons, and finished as the highest run getter with 461 runs. His average of 45 suggests his consistency at the Ranji Trophy. Shikhar Dhawan played a crucial role in the Ranji title win in 2007-08 scoring 570 runs in eight games for his Delhi side.

Shikhar Dhawan played his debut match which was an ODI against Vishakhapatnam in the month of October, 2010, after senior players made themselves unavailable for the series due to fatigue. Shikhar Dhawan failed to score any run from the first ball and Clint McKay bowled him off the next ball. When India had toured West Indies in June 2011, at Queen`s Park Oval in a T20 series, it was the very first T20 appearance of Shikhar Dhawan. Suresh Raina was the Captain of the Indian cricket team during that time. He opened the innings with Parthiv Ajay Patel. In this match he scored 5 out of 11 deliveries. This happened before he was caught behind keeper Andre Fletcher of Captain Darren Sammy.

This was in the first ODI, wherein India required 215 runs to be victorious, which was Dhawan`s maiden ODI fifty. Finally, India emerged victorious at the match by 4 wickets and 31 balls to spare. This was possible due to the contributions of Rohit Sharma. In the 2nd ODI of the tour he scored 3 runs of 4 balls and in the 3rd ODI he scored 4 runs of 15 balls. In the 1st ODI of the tour, with India needing 215 to win, he scored a 51 of 76 balls (3 fours, 1 six. He in his younger days played in Telefunken club of Delhi under Madan Sharma.

He had replaced Virender Sehwag during a test match against Australia on 14th March, 2013. This was Shikhar Dhawan`s debut Test match against Australia. Impressed by his performance, Sachin Tendulkar awarded his own cap.Dhawan then scored the fastest century in his Test debut match (85 balls), on his third day of the event. He managed to break the record of Gundappa Viswanath, who was an Indian debutant with the highest score of 137 balls. A serious injury in his hand prevented him from playing in the fourth Test match which was held in Delhi. The hand injury had occurred when fielding had taken place against Australia in the third test match.

Shikhar Dhawan made four half centuries when he played in the team of Delhi Daredevils in IPL. His scores were the third highest. He then replaced Ashish Nehra and joined Mumbai Indians. Awards won by Shikhar Dhawan
He was the winner of the `Golden Bat` Award after he had scored the highest runs with two centuries in ICC Champions Trophy 2013. The matches were against South Africa and West Indies respectively.

Personal Life
Shikhar Dhawan hails from a Punjabi family and is the husband of Ayesha Mukherjee, a half-British and a half-Bengali woman. He has two daughters, who belong to Ayesha, from her previous marriage.
