Shekhar Kapur, Indian Director Shekhar Kapur has been tagged as the globally recognised media visionary and proponent on the future of New Media. Having started his career as an accountant, management consultant and economist in London, invariably he retreated to India in search of a new direction and went on to become a well-known actor, director, writer and producer. He is best known for films, such as Elizabeth the Golden Age, Bandit Queen and Four Feathers, that have won or been nominated for numerous awards including the Oscars, BAFTAs and Filmfare Awards.

Shekhar Kapur, an Indian film director, was born on 6th December 1945 in Lahore. He is the producer-director of many films. His did his basic schooling at the Modern School, New Delhi and also in Doon school. Shekhar Kapur is the nephew of actors Vijay Anand and Dev Anand Kapur. He was first discouraged by his father to get into show business. At the age of 22, Kapur became chartered accountant. He moved to Great Britain and spent several years working as an accountant and management consultant. He was married to singer and actress Suchitra Krishnamurthy but their marriage did not work out and they got parted in the year 2007.

Career of Shekhar Kapur
Shekhar Kapur has many prominent works to his credit. His works include Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age both fictionalized accounts of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. In 2006 Kapur formed Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation, an entertainment company focussed on creating new stories and characters for a global audience. Shekhar Kapur started his career as film director with the critically acclaimed film `Masoom`. His next venture was super hit film `Mr. India.` Shekhar Kapur made the controversial film `Bandit Queen` that gained International attention when it was banned by the Indian government. He has also directed the famous film `Joshilay` in 1989. Shekhar Kapur has even provided the voice of Mahatma Gandhi in the Charkha Audio books title of `The Story of My Experiments with Truth -Autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi`, alongside Nandita Das as narrator. He is the co-creator and also the Executive Producer of `Bombay Dreams`, which is a music driven theatrical love story that played to packed houses and critical acclaim in London`s West End for almost two years and is now on Broadway. On the screen, he worked as executive producer in the films like `The Guru` and mentoring some of Asia`s most dynamic young filmmakers. Shekhar`s own upcoming projects include `Long Walk to Freedom`, `Paani`, `The Last Full Measure.`

Indian film director Shekhar Kapur has won Filmfare award as best director for his critically acclaimed movie `Bandit Queen`. He has also won National Board of Review award for best director for his film `Elizabeth`. He has also bagged many foreign film awards for this film. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2000.
