Shantha Rangaswamy, Indian Woman CricketerShantha Rangaswamy is also popularly known as Shanta Rangaswamy. She was born on 1st January 1954 in the city of Madras now known as Chennai. She was a part of the women`s cricket team and represented her country in 16 matches` from1976 to 1991, leading the side in 8 matches in 1976-77 and four in 1983-84.

She also participated in 19 Women`s One-day Internationals from 1981-2 to 1986, captaining the side in 16 matches from 1981-2 to 1983-4.

She was a right hand batter and scored 750 runs with a batting average of 32.6 in her 16 test matches, with one brilliant century of 108 against New Zealand. She also took 21 wickets bowling right arm medium pace at a bowling average of 31.61, with career best of 4/42 against England.

She scored 287 runs in her 19 ODI that she played and also took 12 wickets at an average of 29.41. She recorded her best batting and bowling performances in ODIs at the Women`s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in 1982, scoring her only ODI fifty (out for 50) against New Zealand, and taking 3-25 against an International XI.

Personal life of Shantha Rangaswamy
Shantha Rangaswamy was born to CV Rangaswamy and Rajalakshmi. She was the third sister among seven.

She has a niece, Neeta Sreekanth, who is on the Women`s Basketball team at California State University, Northridge.

She is now a cricket writer and an executive in the Canara Bank.

Rangaswamy won Arjuna Award in 1976.
