He has rendered music for many milestone movies of Hindi film industry, garnering much appreciation for his work. His prominent work encompasses films like Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and others. He also has private albums to his credit. He started his musical career as an ad jingle composer and gradually established himself among the leading music directors of India.

Early Life of Shantanu Moitra
Shantanu Moitra was born on 22nd January 1968 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in an artistic family, his father being a Sarod player and mother, an artist. At a young age he moved to Delhi along with his family. Since childhood Shantanu has been inclined towards folk music. He did his schooling from Springdales School. During his school days he became the leader and singer of a music band which in the year 1982 created history by hosting the first rock show of the school. His efforts also earned him an award in school for his contribution to music which was a rare incident in his school. The member of the band including Shantanu also received training in music from Sushmit Bose, an urban folk singer and an alumnus of Springdales, who often used to drop at the school for teaching them. He completed his higher education form Deshbandhu College with a degree in economics.

Career of Shantanu Moitra
Shantanu Moitra, Indian Movie Music Director Shantanu Moitra began his career with an ad agency as a client servicing executive and nurtured music as a hobby. Once he was asked to create a jingle at the last minute by the then Creative Head of the agency, Pradeep Sarkar. Thus he composed the jingle `Bole mere lips, I love Uncle Chipps` for the chips brand named Uncle Chipps which became a huge hit marking his beginning in music composition. Later he created a number of jingles for Pradeep Sarkar as well as other popular advertising brands. Gradually he expanded his horizon and began composing music for Indipop albums. His success in this arena was recorded by the hit songs `Ab ke Saawan` and `Sapna Dekha Hai Maine`, sung by Shubha Mudgal.

In the year 2002 Shantanu Moitra moved to Mumbai and signed his first film, Sudhir Mishra`s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, as a music director. He soon teamed up with lyricist Swanand Kirkire and began working on the song `Bawara Mann`. He had composed the song `Raat Hamari To`, featured in the film Parineeta, even before the film was made. Sung by Chitra, when the song was heard by Vidhu Vinod Chopra who was the producer of Parineeta, he recommended Shantanu to the director for appointing him as the music director. The film marked the turning point of his career earning him recognition in the music industry. The music received huge critical as well as commercial appreciations along with a nomination for the Filmfare Best Music Director Award. Subsequently he also signed Eklavya: The Royal Guard, under the direction of Vidhu Vinod Chopra. In the year 2009, he signed his first Bengali film Antaheen and composed score for the movie. He also works as a music director for Bengali as well as South Indian film industry. Apart form films he also continues to create ad jingles.

Achievements of Shantanu Moitra
In the year 2006 Shantanu Moitra won Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. In the following year, 2007, he won a Bronze Lion in Cannes in the category of best music for a Happydent advertisement.

Personal Life of Shantanu Moitra
Shantanu Moitra is married to Sarada Moitra and the couple is blessed with a son named Shubham. Apart from music Shantanu Moitra is also quite passionate about trekking, photography and astronomy.
