Shamirpet Lake is an artificial lake in Hyderabad, located about 24 kilometers north of Secundrabad. This lake was formed for the irrigation purpose in the medieval era that is during the rule of Nizams.
Shamirpet Lake is the centre of attraction to the inland and outland tourists of India, as this place is the dwelling location of large number of birds- both local and migratory birds.
Shamirpet Lake attracts many birds, both local and migratory. This is an ideal place for the ornithologists, as it is a good bird-watching spot. A resort run by the Government of Andhra Pradesh is located near the lake.
The Outer Ring Road (ORR) will pass close to the Shamirpet Lake. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani Hyderabad campus is also situated near the lake. It can also be seen from the lake. For the tourists, Shamirpet Lake offers boating and fishing.
Near Shamirpet Lake, there is a Jawahar Deer Park, better known as Shamirpet Deer Park, which contains many deer, peacocks and different exotic migratory birds is located. Shamirpet Deer Park is maintained by the Government of Telangana, as this place falls under the Government of Telangana, a newly formed state government after the formation of the news state in India, Telangana.
Many people come there for a picnic or a get together. Many films of local language (Telugu language) were shot there, as this lake is the prime shooting spot in Hyderabad.
Near the lake, there is a temple called Ratnalayam temple located. Ratnalayam temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara. This temple is located around 30 kms from the city, around 2 kms from the Shamirpet Lake.
