Shahid Kapoor is an Indian actor who has gained prominence in the Indian film industry through his splendid performances. Initially he worked in advertisements and music videos. He however stepped into the acting world with the movie Ishq Vishk in the year 2003. He achieved his first commercial success with Sooraj Barjatya`s Vivah in 2006.
Early Life of Shahid Kapoor
Indian movie actor Shahid Kapoor is a Mumbai based boy with film a background as his father is `Karamchand` famed as Pankaj Kapur and mother is television actress cum classical dancer Neelima Azeem. He was born on February 25th 1981 in Mumbai. His parents got divorced when he was three. Later his dad got married to actress Supriya Pathak. Shahid Kapoor has a brother and sister namely Ruhan and Sanaa respectively. His stepbrother Ishaan Kapoor has starred with him in the film `Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi`. Shahid started his primary education from Gyan Bharati School, Delhi, but moved to Rajhans Vidyalaya, Mumbai after fourth grade. While studying in NM College, Juhu, Shahid joined Shiamak Davar`s dancing school and he went on to become a part of Shiamak`s dancing troupe.
Film Career of Shahid Kapoor
As a child artist, Shahid appeared in advertisements with Ayesha Takia and for Pepsi, which also starred Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. Shahid made his debut in Aryans music video called "Aankhon mein". He did some extra roles also as he was in a background dance troupe of Shiamak Davar`s in the film `Taal`. Shahid signed his first film of Ken Ghosh `Ishq Vishk`, opposite Amrita Rao and MTV VJ Shenaz Treasurywala in 2003. Shahid`s performance was appreciated widely. Shahid Kapoor again signed his second movie with Ken Ghosh`s `Fida` in which he was paired with two superstars Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. Shahid and Kareena`s chemistry in `Fida` was appreciated and the duo signed three movies together including `36 China Town`, `Chupke Chupke` and `Milenge Milenge` as well. In 2005 his three films, `Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi`, `Deewane Huye Pagal`, and `Shikhar` failed to do well at the box office but his performances were praised. In 2006, Shahid received his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, `36 China Town`. In the summer of 2006, Shahid toured the world with the `Rockstar` group along with fellow Bollywood stars, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat and Zayed Khan.
In 2006 Shahid was cast in Sooraj Barjatya`s Vivah opposite Amrita Rao which was a blockbuster hit. He gave his next smashing hit in 2007 in Imtiaz Ali`s Jab We Met, pairing with Kareena Kapoor. The actor`s performance was critically acclaimed. These opened new gates for new offers. Shahid starred in movies like Kismat -Konnection (2008) with Vidya Balan, Kaminey (2009) portraying a dual-role with Priyanka Chopra, Dil Bole Hadippa (2009) alongside Rani Mukherjee, Chance Pe Dance (2010) opposite Genelia D`Souza and Paathshala (2010) with Ayesha Takia. In the later half of the year he also featured in Baadmash Company along with Anushka Sharma under the Yash Raj Films and Milenge Milenge with Kareena Kapoor. His other movies include Mausam, Teri Meri Kahaani, Bombay Talkies and Phata Poster Nikla Hero.
Achievements of Shahid Kapoor
In the year 2004 Shahid won the Filmfare Awards for Best Male Debut for his film `Ishq Vishk`. For the same film he also got Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), Sansui Award and Filmfare Awards as most Promising Newcomer. Stardust awarded him as the `Superstar of Tomorrow` for the same film. In 2005 the actor got Blistex Awards for Best Lips and in 2007 he got Sports World Awards as Jodi of the Year along with Amrita Rao for the film `Vivah`. In the year 2008 he received Stardust Awards as Editor`s Choice Award for Best Actor for the performance in `Jab We Met`. He was also nominated for numerous awards in his career.
