Saur Valley is located in the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand. This small valley is 8 km in height and 5 km in width, resembles the Kashmir Valley. Pithoragarh town, the headquarters of the district, is situated in this valley. Saur Valley with an elevation of 1650 meters is encompassed by beautiful mountains. This valley provides the astounding views of vast snow range across Trishuli, Nanda Devi, Panchchuli Group, and Api of Nepal from the place named Chandak, which is located on a nearby 2000 meters hill. An annual fair is held near Chandak.
Historical Significance of Saur Valley
According to the historians, Saur was ruled by Katyuri Kings; some of the forts constructed by them are still present in some regions near this valley, for example Ajayemerukot, Unchakot, Bhatkot, Bailerkot, Udaypurkot, Dumrakot, Sahajkot, Bamuakot, Dewarkot and Dunikot.
