Satananda in the eleventh century lived in Puri on the Bay of Bengal. He mainly composed his work on the lines of Surya Siddhanta which was included in the name of Bhasvati. Bhasvati too is an eminent work regarding the study of moon which is included in Chandravakyas. This enlists a collection of numbers, arranged in the form of a list related to the motion of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth. This has been an important study which was largely propagated by the Kerela school Astronomy and Mathametics which has been included as Chandravakyas or the Moon sentences.

Satananda has been the prominent ancient Indian astronomer who tried to locate the scientific study of moon often known as Chandravakya. The study of Chandravakya has been more popular in modern days when it has been associated with computation of almanacs based on parameters derived from astronomical observation. In modern almanacs it is known as Drk Pancangas which remains a prominent part of Kerela astronomy.

Satananda thus remains prominent among all the astronomers who centred their theory on the movement of moon and its impact on the Earth.
