Sasangir is the city consisting of a national park known as Sasan Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. Sasan Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the dwelling place of Asiatic lions. Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its supported species. This wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 258 square kilometres.

Sasangir was constructed in the year 1965. The total area of Sasangir is about 1412 square kilometres. This place has got a national park wildlife sanctuary that covers an area of 258 square kilometres. Early in the year 1900 the Nawab of Princely State of Junagadh declared Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary as a protected area.
