The Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC) is a well known medical institution in India and it is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1854, the SNMC is one of the first three oldest medical colleges in India. The college was founded during the British reign. The main purpose behind its establishment was for the practice of British military doctors. The original name of the Sarojini Naidu Medical College was Thomson School and it was named after Lt. Governor Sir James Thomson, founder of the college. The entire plan for establishing the school was done by the British East India Company and the company also bore all the costs for the maintenance of the college. There is also a hospital adjacent to the Medical School and the hospital was initially known as the Thompson Hospital. However, the hospital`s name was later changed to S.N. Hospital, with the elevation of Agra Medical School to S. N. Medical College.
Surgeon John Murray was the first principal of Sarojini Naidu Medical College, from 1854 to1858. In 1857 the first batch of Indian doctors graduated from this medical college in Uttar Pradesh. From the year 1872, the college administration started to admit the civilian students to the LMP course that was later changed into LSMF by the Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty. The college administration established a separate hospital, named Lady Lyall Duuerin Hospital in 1883, with a view to provide medical training to the female students. The first batch of female doctors who graduated from Sarojini Naidu Medical College was in 1886.
The Agra Medical School was upgraded as a full fledged Medical College in 1939 for meeting the growing demand for doctors in United Provinces. In 1944 the first batch of MBBS graduated from this school and the degree was awarded by the Agra University. The medical school was rechristened to Sarojini Naidu Medical College in the year of 1947. The college was named after the first Lady Governess of Uttar Pradesh, the poetess and freedom fighter, Bharat Kokila. The Thomson Hospital was also renamed as Sarojini Naidu Hospital, at the same time. The S N Medical College got recognition from the Medical Council of India and the General Medical Council of Great Britain, in 1948.
The Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC) has successfully completed 154 years of its useful existence and the college is entirely dedicated to the cause of medical education and research. The college is also dedicated to the service of suffering humanity, as it is evident from the college motto that is `LIVE TO SERVE`. All the faculty members, employees and students of the college have always been striving hard for improving the facilities for patients and students.

Apart from the departments, the college also provide the under graduate course of MBBS. The Post Graduate Courses that are provided in this college include the likes of M.S. (Human Anatomy, Obstetrics Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Surgery), M.D. (Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Human Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology, SPM, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dental surgery, Skin & VD, Medicine, Pediatrics, Radio diagnosis, Psychiatry, Radio therapy, TB & chest diseases). Apart from them, a number of PG Diploma courses are also available in the college and the subjects include Pharmacy, Obstetrics Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Radio diagnosis, Psychiatry, Radio therapy and TB & chest diseases.
