Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is considered as the seventh busiest airport in India. It is an international airport serving the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

It is an international airport serving the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. It is considered the seventh busiest airport in India. Terminal 2 won the award for the best Steel Structure at the 2009 edition of the National Structural Steel Design and Construction Awards.

History of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport was set up in the year of 1937. Though, the international operations began on 26/01/1991. On 23rd May 2000, it was categorised as an International airport. In 2015, the Airports Authority of India invited suggestions for privatisation of Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Jaipur airports.

Structure of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has a single runway that is 3,599 metres long. It currently consists of four terminals - domestic, international, an additional terminal for lesser traffic and a cargo terminal in addition. The airport has 45 parking bays and both the international and domestic terminals have four aero-bridges each. The new terminal has been modelled based on Singapore Changi Airport.

The new terminal has a half-kilometre-long moving walkway, which ties the two terminals. Airports Authority of India will build a new technical block which will develop the flight handling capability and supply better control of flights. Terminal 1 has 32 check-in counters; Terminal 2 was inaugurated on 4th July 2010 and opened for use on 15th September 2010. It has four aerobridges and 32 check-in counters. The airport handled 51,637 tonnes of cargo, wide-ranging of gold and silver in 2013 to 2014.

Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service runs bus services to the airport. There is a prepaid taxi booth at the airport premises. Shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes from the airport terminal.
