Sankhumugham Beach, KeralaThe beach is located amidst a fishing village, which is dominated by the fishermen`s community. The beach is favourite spot for those who love sunsets. The rough waters of the beach are not suitable for bathing. Shanghumugham Beach is easily accessible from the Kovalam Beach, Veli Tourist Village and Akkulam Tourist Village. It is noted for its cleanliness. The vast stretch of white sand and the serene atmosphere adds to its beauty.

This beach is considered as the `Arattukadavu` of Sri Ananthapadmanabhan - The presiding deity of the city. Several Hindus perform `Bali Tharpanam` during special occasions. It is also the prime location for Ganesh Nimarjan at the time of Ganesh Chathurthi. On the Arattu day at Thiruvananthapuram, images of Lord Padmanabhawamy, Lord Narasimha and Lord Krishna are taken to the Arabian Sea at Shanghumugham beach. After the ceremonial bath images are taken back in procession that concludes the festival.

There is a gigantic sculpture, which is thirty-five meters in length of a mermaid, which is called `matsya kanyaka` which is a major attraction of this beach. It is more than 35m long. The `Jawaharlal Nehru Park of Traffic signs for children` is also situated here.
