Sanjay Khan is a recognized Indian movie actor, director and producer primarily active in the Hindi film industry. Debuting in the industry with the Bollywood flick Haqeeqat, he has worked in more than 30 flicks as an actor since 1960s till mid 1980s. Apart from films he has also ventured into Indian television in the fiction series The Sword of Tipu Sultan. He has also played the role of a film producer and director. Sanjay Khan was born on 3 January 1941 in Bengaluru to a Muslim liberal family as Shah Abbas Khan.
Career of Sanjay Khan
Sanjay Khan made his cinematic debut as an actor in Bollywood with 1964 Chetan Anand film Haqeeqat. This was followed by Rajshri film`s Dosti. During the time of 1960s and 1970s, he featured in flicks like Intaqam, Ek Phool Do Mali and Dus Lakh. He worked with his elder brother, Feroz Khan, in three films namely Nagin, Mela and Upaasna. Subsequently he turned producer and director, playing lead roles in a few of his films. He also authored the script for popular flicks like Kala Dhanda Goray Log, Abdullah and Chandi Sona.
In the year 1990 he directed the first mega historical fiction television series of India titled The Sword of Tipu Sultan which was based on the novel of the same name. He also acted in it. On the first schedule of its shooting of the show he suffered a fatal fire accident with 65 percent third degree burnt. After recovering from the injury after 13 months in hospital, he continued with the series and completed it, a gesture admired by all. His performance, scripting and direction of the show were greatly appreciated. Following this he produced and directed another mega television series titled, The Great Maratha which was based on the life of Maratha General Mahadji Scindia. He portrayed the courage and tenacity of the Marathas with the depiction of third Panipat war which made the serial to have been presented like never before in the history of Indian television. His next project was in mid 90s when he produced and directed the Mega TV-series Jai Hanuman which became immensely popular. The portrayal of the birth and childhood of Lord Hanuman in the show was very appreciable and was first such attempt in the television history in the new millennium. Dramas like Maharathi Karna and 1857 Kranti were also created by him.
Personal Life of Sanjay Khan
Sanjay Khan is married to Zarine Katrak who is a former model by profession. The couple is blessed with three daughters and a son. His elder daughter is Farah, second daughter is Simone and youngest daughter is Suzanne, who was formerly married to Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan. His only son Zayed Khan is also a Bollywood actor. Apart from being passionate about cars, Sanjay Khan is an animal lover. He is also a first class horse rider and a voracious reader.
