Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for PlaywritingSangeet Natak Akademi Award for Playwriting is presented by the prime body for performing arts in India, the Sangeet Natak Akademi. This award is a part of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Theatre category. It is being presented since the year 1958, when the eminent Marathi play writer B. V. `Mama` Warerkar received it, for the first time. The award is presented to the exceptionally talented and successful play writers in Indian theatre, who have been playing a crucial role in the total development of theatre in India. The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Playwriting is given to the play writers in different languages like Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, etc.
