Sandip Ray is a noted Indian film director whose works mainly encompasses the Bengali film industry. He was born on 8 September 1953 to the renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray and his wife Bijoya Ray in Kolkata, West Bengal. Sandip Ray is also known to be an excellent photographer. Apart from the film works he is also associated with the children"s magazine named Sandesh since a long time.

Career of Sandip Ray
Sandip Ray began his professional career in the film industry at the young age of 22, as an assistant director for his father`s movie Shatranj Ke Khiladi in the year 1977. Before this also he had assisted his father on various project with varied roles including still photographer on set. He marked his directional debut in the industry in 1983 with the movie Phatik Chand and his very first venture received an award in the International Children`s Film Festival in Vancouver. Owing to his photographic skills, he also worked as the director of photography on the last three flicks of Satyajit Ray titled Ganashatru (1989), Shakha Proshakha (1990) and Agantuk (1991).

Sandip Ray played a significant role in guiding the children`s magazine named Sandesh. The magazine was founded by his great-grandfather Upendrakishore Ray and was continued by his grandfather and father Sukumar Ray and Satyajit Ray respectively. Following the death of Satyajit Ray, since 1992 he served as the Joint Editor of the Sandesh and from 2003 he became the editor of the magazine. In 2003 he also started working on an adaptation of his father`s original 1962 story Bankhubabur Bandhu. It was adapted into a Bengali television film having the same name under the direction of Koushik Sen that was televised in 2006. Sandip Ray also directed films like Bombaiyer Bombete, Nishijapon, Kailashey Kelenkari, Tintorettor Jishu, Gorosthaney Sabdhan, Royal Bengal Rohosso, Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy, Chaar and many others. He also began scoring background music with his film Bombaiyer Bombete. He also used his first written thriller story for a film titled Hitlist which he himself directed in 2009.

Publications of Sandip Ray
Sandip Ray has authored a book titled Aami aar Feluda which narrates his account of the time he shared with the famous Bengali detective created by his father, Feluda. Published by Deep Prakashan, it was one of the best sellers in the Kolkata Book Fair. The book is about the background stories of all Feluda movies and telefilms.
