Sandeep Chowta is an Indian music director who has presented to the Hindi film industry many enchanting and melodious renditions. Apart from Bollywood he has also worked for the south Indian film industry. He also serves as the head of the Columbia Records in India. Some of his compositions have been sung by himself. His compositions have been defined as spiritual as well as sensuous which magnetize the listeners. It has won the hearts of millions, reaching beyond the barriers of community and generations.
Early Life of Sandeep Chowta
Sandeep Chowta was born in Ghana, Africa, and also spent some years of his childhood in Nigeria. Later he moved to Bengaluru with his family. He is the eldest son of D. K. Chowta who is an author and a businessman by profession. His sister Prajna Chowta works as an ethnographer.
Career of Sandeep Chowta
Sandeep Chowta began his music career with Telugu film Ninne Pelladutha in 1996. He also worked for a couple of Bollywood films afterwards including Bhai and Insaaf: The Final Justice. The turning point of his career arrived in the year 1998 when the background score of the critically acclaimed Bollywood flick Satya, composed by him, captured the minds of the masses.
It probably marked the first incidence in Indian cinema when the background score of a movie garnered more popularity than the original soundtrack. The film brought prominence to Sandeep Chowta in the music arena who soon captured the same with his sheer talent. Following this, he composed music for a number of Bollywood as well as south Indian films gaining appreciations and fame in the industry. Other films for which he has composed music include Mast, Jungle, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Asoka, Company, Road, Om Shanti Om, Bhoot Returns, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, R... Rajkumar and many more. He also composed music for several Telugu films.
Sandeep Chowta has also released a number of music albums like Mallika I Hate You, Mitti, Alisha Alisha, Viva, Mila etc. His album Matters of the Heart revisits his own compositions conceived at different phases of his life. The album has been produced, written and composed by Sandeep Chowta. In the year 2003 Sandeep produced an anti substance abuse documentary with the title Dead End. It was government acclaimed and was screened at various film festivals. In the following year he invited Jay Oliver and Richard Gannaway of the world/ new age musical group, Aomusic, to his studio at Mumbai. Subsequently he became one of the contributing producers of the group. Since the year 2009, the album releases of Aomusic, which have credited Chowta, have topped the international charts.
